Your new role
You will be required to develop, implement, and ensure continuous improvement in Environment, Health and Safety (EH&S) within our European Centre of Operations in Kerkrade.
The primary purpose of this function is: maintaining compliance with the requirements of all applicable
National, state, and local regulations, and Boston Scientific’s corporate EH&S policies and requirements; driving/communicating EH&S awareness and performance and continuous improvement. Responsible for appropriate procedures, implementations, and managing the site Emergency Response and Crisis Management Team. Acts as Expert Employee (Preventiemedewerker).
Your responsibilities will include;
- Overseas and continuously improves the Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) and Energy Management programs to ensure legal, regulatory, corporate, and ISO compliance (ISO 14001, 45001, 50001).
- Proactively identifies EH&S risks and opportunities, providing input to management and supporting strategic decision‑making.
- Establishes, tracks, and reports EH&S performance metrics, including incidents, audits, energy, waste, and emissions, and drives improvement plans.
- Promotes a strong EH&S culture through cross‑functional collaboration, communication, training, and employee engagement.
- Develops and delivers safety and EH&S training; maintains training records and local procedures.
- Leads emergency preparedness and response as Emergency Response Team Coordinator.
- Manages hazardous materials, dangerous goods, and waste through appropriate procedures and controls.
- Ensures regulatory reporting and maintains relationships with governmental authorities.
- Investigates incidents and accidents, implements corrective actions, and ensures timely close‑out.
- Maintains risk assessments and the EHS Corrective Action System.
- Drives site‑level EH&S improvement initiatives and projects.
- Collaborates with corporate EH&S teams to adopt industry and company best practices.
- Ensures quality and compliance in all activities.
Leadership and communication skills:
- Provides day‑to‑day leadership and coordination for the team, including setting performance expectations, coaching, and monitoring quality and progress.
- Drives continuous improvement by reviewing processes and implementing performance evaluation tools.
- Develops a high‑performance team through regular feedback, coaching, and development planning.
- Communicates effectively with tact and diplomacy, knowing when and how to involve key stakeholders.
- Assigns short‑term tasks and clearly communicates performance and delivery expectations.
- Addresses straightforward employee or customer issues with appropriate sensitivity and professionalism.
- Leads teams toward organisational goals by guiding, coaching, directing, and developing direct reports.
- Fosters an inclusive and diverse workplace that enables all employees to perform at their best.
- May manage budgets and oversee activities across functional areas, projects, or operations.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
What you’ll need to succeed
⦁ A degree (preferable HVK or MVK) in environmental, health and safety or related scientific field and a minimum of two years of related experience.
⦁ Experience with developing, implementing and maintaining EHS management systems
⦁ Strong competence with the various tools, reporting and procedures used to accomplish the job.
⦁ Knowledge/experience of working in a manufacturing or supply chain environment preferred.
⦁ Demonstrating knowledge of local health and safety, and environmental regulations is required.
⦁ Knowledge of ISO Standards (ISO 14001, ISO 50001, ISO 45001)
⦁ Knowledge of the Dutch and English languages
⦁ People leader skills
